Just a short walk from your Hot Rate Hotel you will find the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the most recognisable churches in the world and a stunning example of French Gothic architecture. Pope Alexander III was present when the first stone of the church was laid in 1163, although there is debate over whether it was he or the Bishop of Paris who laid the first stone. The current spire of the church (the first spire was taken down in the late 18th century) is made up of 500 tons of wood and 250 tons of lead, as well as standing at 93m in height. One of the most striking features of the church is its collection of objects in the Treasury, including chalices that are claimed to have received the blood of Christ, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails. Elsewhere in the church you will find beautiful and intricate stained-glass windows, gargoyle statues, and the famous bell known affectionately as the ‘Bumblebee’. Close by there are a number of souvenir shops where you can find items such as iconic photos of the church and history books, as well as smaller items such as postcards and key rings.
Close to the Cathedral are a number of excellent restaurants and cafes, ideal for those who are visiting the church around lunch or dinner time. Le Petit Point is located in the Latin Quarter of Paris and provides diners with stunning views of the Cathedral, as well as a charming interior with a spacious feel and relaxed atmosphere. The food is traditional French brasserie cuisine, and diners can enjoy dishes such as duck foie gras or beef steak with pepper sauce.
Have a wonderful time in Paris!
