For cocktails, head to the sky bar at Axel Hotel. This classy hotel bar overlooks the city and has a DJ set at the weekends.

Just a few minutes walk from L’Eixample, you’ll find yourself at Plaza Catalunya. This is the main square in the city and at Christmas time, you’ll find an ice rink here. Those looking to hit the shops will have the choice of El Corte Ingles department store on the corner, as well as the strip of shops running from Passeig de Gracia right down to the Cathedral. Remember that Spanish makes Zara and Mango are much cheaper here, where as British brands like Topshop are considerably more. For original souvenirs and gifts, the Mercat Del Encants in Glories is the city’s best loved flea market. You’ll find trinkets galore here as well as antiquities, books, furniture and clothing- be prepared to haggle!

The Palau de la Musica Catalana is a modernist concert hall that will take your breathe away. Take a tour of this beautiful building, or even better watch one of the concerts here with a loved one. If music isn’t your thing, take the cable car up to the top of Montjuic and explore the castle whilst enjoying the stunning vistas over the city and Mediterranean sea. In the summer, the castle hosts open air cinema screenings.
