The Museum of the Americas is a must for anyone interested in pre-Columbian art and antiquities as well as a general historical insight into the society and religion of the Americas. Art buffs should head to the golden triangle of art: the Prado, Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza, where they can see masterpieces from everyone from Goya to Damien Hirst. Nearby is the Royal Palace, the official residence of the Spanish monarchy, filled with further masterpieces and antiquities and worthy of a tour if you have the time.
