The mix of labyrinth like streets and pretty plazas make this one of the most atmospheric areas of Barcelona, and where you’ll find authentic tapas bars and boutique shops. For tea and cake, head to Caelum. Monks and nuns, from different monasteries, make the sweets and delicacies in the shop part – great for souvenirs and gifts! You’ll also find some great antique shops nearby selling vintage furs, posters and jewellery.
The ramblas is Barcelona’s best known street, lined with tapas bars and full of small stalls selling baby bunnies, art works and various tours. If you’re hoping to catch a game at the famous Camp Nou stadium, the kiosks along here will be able to tell you what’s on during your stay. If there’s not a match, a stadium tour is still a must for football fans. The tour allows visitors into the press room, onto the dug out and in the changing rooms and there is also a museum with footage of the clubs most iconic moments, awards and memorabilia from the players.
The borne district is another pretty area in the city, and where you’ll find the Picasso museum. The museum contains many works from Picasso’s early years and, as a large part was donated by his wife, it’s one of the largest collections in the world. Picasso enthusiasts should also pay a visit to Els 4 Gats, the café and restaurant where Picasso frequented with pals such as Salvador Dali and where he held his first exhibition. In the evening, the borne district has a great selection of bars such as Can Paixano (La Xampanyeria). This cava bar offers drinks and tapas at bargain prices and the atmosphere is always lively and upbeat- the perfect place to start the evening before checking out local nightclubs such as Jamboree and Sidecar Factory.
