Paris is recognised across the world as being a cultural metropolis, with a vast array of stunning institutions including museums, galleries and historical landmarks making it one of the most popular tourist destinations every year. Art galleries in Paris are easy to come by, and the Musee d’Orsay is highly recommended whether you are an art fanatic or just have a mild appreciation for it! Located in the city centre on the banks of the Seine, the museum was established at the beginning of the 20th century but was not opened as a museum to the public until 1986. Housing a stunning collection of pieces primarily from the Louvre, the Musee du Jeu de Paum, and the National Museum of Modern Art, the collections at the d’Orsay date from 1848 to 1914. Visitors can get up close to works by the likes of Claude Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Vincent van Gogh, amongst many other notorious figures from the art world. The museum is closed on Mondays and due to the Louvre being closed on Tuesdays visiting the d’Orsay is not recommended due to overcrowding, but be sure to take the time to spend a few hours here during your stay!
