Closely located to the Prado Museum and also part of the ‘Golden Triangle of Art’ is the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Containing over 1,600 works of art, the collection was previously the second largest private collection in the world and in 1992 the Thyssen-Bornemisza family arranged an agreement with the Spanish government that led to the establishment of the museum. The collection has been gradually built up by generations of the family, resulting in pieces that cover eight centuries from across the world. Some of the most recognisable artists who have some of their works showcased here include Monet, Caravaggio, Van Gogh and Rembrandt. Entry is 9euros for general admission, but visitors can access the permanent collections for free on Mondays from 12 – 4pm.

Located on Moreto Street stands the beautiful St. Jerome Royal Church, founded in 1464 by Enrique IV and declared a National Monument in 1925. Designed in a Gothic style, the style of the interior also has Renaissance influences, although considered to be less extravagant than the spectacular exterior. Inside you can see the intricate artwork along the walls of the church, and the smaller side-chapels are often open to the public to explore. Visitors can also see sculptures by 18th century artists such as Juan Pascual de Mena, and the stained-glass windows are beautifully designed and are a firm favourite with visitors. The church is open Monday to Sunday until 8.30pm, but is closed in the middle of the afternoon for siesta, but is conveniently located close to the Prado and makes a nice addition to a day out visiting Madrid’s top attractions.
