Barcelona was the home of the most famous Cubist artist of all time, Pablo Picasso, during his early life, and the city has its very own Museu Picasso dedicated to his works during his time spent here. Opened in 1963, the museum is now spread across 5 adjoining palaces, housing over 3,800 pieces including portraits of Picasso’s close friend Jaume Sabartès, and ceramics donated by Picasso’s widow. Although the museum does not house more of the artists’ most famous works, it provides a great insight into his earlier pieces and his time in Barcelona, and is well worth visiting for art-lovers.
The Gothic Quarter of the city is one of the most popular parts of Barcelona, due to its picturesque narrow streets and buildings that date back to Medieval times. Enjoy wandering around and taking in the vibrant atmosphere the area provides, and make sure you visit some of the local shops and have a bite to eat in one of the fantastic traditional Catalan restaurants that can be found here. In the evenings the area really comes to life, with bars and restaurants full of customers after their afternoon siestas eager to fill up with delicious tapas and paella whilst drinking their favourite local beer or wine.
Have a lovely time in Barcelona!
