Munich has a wide range of art museums situated around the city, and just north of the city centre you can find the largest modern art museum in Germany – the Pinakothek der Moderne. First opened in 2002, the museum covers four floors and brings together 4 stunning collections of modern works, including the State Gallery of Modern Art which houses works by the likes of Picasso, Dali, Andy Warhol and many more. One of the most popular displays is the New Collection, located on the basement floor and containing designs from the industrial revolution right up to the present day. This section largely focuses on applied design features, with some of the most notable objects on display including VW Beetles, funky furniture from the 1960s, and early Apple Mac computers. The State Graphics Collection is hugely impressive, with pieces from the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci a key part of the collection that in total contains over 400,000 pieces, though only a limited number are shown at a time. The final displays in the Architecture Museum contain drawings and blueprints from household names in the field, providing visitors with a fascinating insight into the planning that goes into creating a wide range of pieces. Fans of art will certainly not want to miss out on a visit here!
