We recommend you visit the house of the famous and inspirational composer Beethoven, not far from the hotels in this collection. It provides a unique and in-depth look into the life of Ludwig van Beethoven, including the famous ‘Heiligenstädter Testament’, the letter that Beethoven wrote but never sent to his two brothers in 1805, expressing his worry over his growing deafness. The museum is split into two sections – the first being the actual living space of the man himself, and the second section looks at the last few months of the composer’s life. Beethoven Wohnung Heiligenstadt is located on Probusgasse, and is free for visitors under 19 years of age.
If you’re willing to take a short trip into the city, then it’s well worth a visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum on Theresienplatz. This fine arts museum is different from the others of it’s type, with stunning architecture and a unique art collection, including Greek and Roman antiques, a coin cabinet and a brilliant picture gallery, featuring works by artists such as van Dyck, Rembrandt and Titian. Said to be one of the best museums in the city, and certainly the one that stands out through its extensive collections and alternative focus, this museum can’t be missed! Entry to the museum is only €14.00, with discounts for students and senior citizens.
