The Vienna City Hall is located right on your doorstep with this City Hall – University of Vienna area hotel, one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole of the city. It was designed by Friedrich Schmidt and was built between 1872 and 1883 in a Gothic style, with a stunning tower similar to those of Gothic cathedrals. Today it is used as the head office of the municipal administration. Visitors can take guided tours through the Hall to see some of the famously beautiful interiors of the state rooms. The guide will take you through the Council Chamber, where the members of the City Council convene, featuring a huge historic chandelier of 23 lights, as well as the ceiling decorated with 22 carat gold. Visitors can also see the Coat of Arms Halls, the Stone Halls, the Festival Hall, the Senate Chamber, and the Arkadenhof, one of the biggest inner courtyards in Europe.

The University of Vienna is also nearby, founded by Duke Rudolph IV in 1365, making it the oldest university in the German speaking world.
