The Parc de Bruxelles is the largest urban park in the centre of the city, and covers 32 acres. It was first created towards the latter half of the 18th century, and its main entrance is opposite the Belgian House of Parliament. The park is also close to the Royal Palace of Brussels, so visitors can enjoy a morning visit to the palace before an afternoon stroll around the beautiful park. The park has a number of features including fountains, statues and bandstands, and is very family friendly. Although not the residential home of the Belgian Royal family, the Royal Palace is a spectacular building and is well worth visiting, and remains the location where the King exercises his powers as Head of State, including state visits. Enjoy walking along the long corridors and admiring the impressive art collection inside, as well as the luxurious furniture and intricate ceiling designs, one of which is made from 1.4million metallic blue beetle wings. The ceiling is in the Mirror Room, and was created by Jan Fabre and his team of 29 other artists, taking almost 3 months to place each beetle wing on the ceiling to create an amazing spectacle. Visitors can enjoy exploring the Palace at their own pace, and there are leaflets available in English for further information about each of the rooms.
We hope you have a wonderful time in Brussels!
