You’ll find this hotel in the heart of the gothic quarter, close to las ramblas, barceloneta beach and the shopping district of Passeig de Gracia- you really couldn’t be better located! Rooms are provided with complimentary mineral water and service by daily housekeeping, whilst a high speed internet connection and cable television are sure to keep you occupied when you’re winding down in the evenings. Should you need any assistance, do not hesitate to contact the 24 hour reception, who also offer tours, car rental and valet laundry. Other facilities include a fully equipped gym, luggage room and meeting rooms.
The gothic quarter is full of traditional tapas bars and boutique shops, so finding your bearings and wandering around the characteristic winding alleys of this district is a must. When it’s time for a rest, head to Teteria la Clandestina. This quirky tea house serves homemade cakes, empanadas and delicious baguettes and paninis, including the famous bikini (a cheese and ham toastie). The extensive menu of herbal teas and shisha pipes make this spot a hippy hang out and it’s a tranquil spot away from tourists.
Next to the gothic quarter you’ll find yourself in the borne district. This pretty area is where you’ll find the Picasso Museum as well as a great selection of restaurants. The museum is home to one of the largest collections of Picasso works in the world, and a must for anyone interested to learn more about one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. Highlights include pieces from his blue period and his ceramics inspired by primitivism.
With the beach at your fingertips, whatever the weather make sure you take a stroll along the coast. This beach can get pretty windy and it’s not uncommon to see surfing lessons taking place here, although it’s not the best beach for the sport due to the often calm waves. Grab a coffee and sit down on one of the benches, or choose one of the beachside cafes for a spot of breakfast or lunch. There’s nothing like the sea air to wake you up! In the evenings, Barceloneta comes alive, and you’ll notice walking down the coast in the daytime the amount of chic nightclubs and cocktail bars here. Opium is a favourite with tourists and locals alike whilst Shoko is popular with a younger crowd. For cocktails, look no further than the W hotel. There’s a bar at the top of this iconic building serving delicious concoctions against the stunning backdrop of the city and coast.
