One of York’s most famous landmarks is the Clifford Tower, which was used by the Romans as a cemetery and is now a popular site for visitors to York. You can also see the last remaining part of York Castle, later rebuilt in stone by Henry III after the wooden tower was burned in 1190 as part of the persecution of the city’s Jewish population. As well as having an amazing history, the tower provides stunning views of the city if you climb the spiral steps to the top of this magnificent building. The Tower also has a number of guides who are happy to tell you about the history of the tower, and answer any questions you may have. There are also a number of information boards, which explain more about the tower, and there is a small visitors centre and gift shop too!

We hope you have a fantastic time during your stay in York!
