Another great cultural day out is the Whitworth Gallery situated in Whitworth Park. This beautiful building has over 55,000 pieces in its collection including textiles, sculpture, prints and both historic and modern art. Highlights include Genesis by Sir Jacob Epstein and Moonlight on Lake Lucerne with the Rigi in the Distance by Turner. The Gallery café is run by award winning caterers and children’s meals come with a fun art pack.

If you’re visiting with a loved one, Tatton Park makes a great romantic day out. The mansion sits within 50 acres of award winning gardens, which in turn are situated in the centre of 1,000 acres of lush greenery. The house was occupied by the Egerton family during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the collections of rare and antiquarian books and paintings are a reflection of the importance of the family and of course their wealth. Afterwards, explore the grounds at your leisure on foot, bicycle or horseback if you’re feeling adventurous! The site has been a deer park since 1290, so packing a picnic and watching these regal animals is highly recommended. If the weather’s not in your favour however, the Stables restaurant offers up homemade, locally sourced dishes and even includes a ‘baby deli’ for those with little ones.
